Q. Write about the main reasons of 1857 revolt.
Ans : It was the major event in which the weak Indians had to fight against the brave English army. In this battle the Indians were defeated. There were the following reasons for the defeat     Indians have less opportunity to fight against brave enemy.
1.  Indians have less opportunity to fight against brave enemy.
2. There was no unity in Indian army. For example, the Bengal army wanted to continue the ideal livelihood of Mughals as it was before.
3. The North region like Kashmir, Sindh, Punjab and Rajputana did not give any support to Indian army in battle.
4. The middle class and high class people refused to Indian army in battle.
5. The leadership of this army was very weak. There was no ability of association and unity in Indian army.
6. There was no similarity and cause in the movements among all the areas.
7. Indian sepoys used to work in uncontrolled manner.



Q.What were the reasons of Santhal Rebellion?
Ans:
1. British people were starting rule on the residential area of Santhals.
2. They compelled Santhals to pay land tax or lagans so they had to borrow money from Mahajans or moneylanders at high rate of interests.
3.They had to sell ornaments, cattle, bullocks and even piece of land for the payment of land tax.
4. Thay had to do labour on the daily wages on the basis of above mentioned reasons they rebelled against British.

Q. Enlist any three major causes of the failure of the Revolt of 1857.
Ans: The three major causes of the failure if the Revolt of 1857 were:
1.     The revolt was a big event in the history of India. It had very little chance of success against an organized and powerful enemy.
2.     It remained confined to north and central India only.
3.     There was no unity of purpose among the rebels.
4.     The leadership of the movement was weak.
5.     The rebels were short of weapons and finances.

Q. Why did Indian peasants not want to cultivate indigo(Neel)?
Ans: The Indian peasants did not want to cultivate Neel due to the following reasons:
1.They got less price than the cost of production.
2. Neel crop takes the time equal to the times of other foot crops.
3.  Neel plants absorb more minerals (fertility) of the soil with the result of that the land becomes barren.

Q. What are the reasons of Mappila Revolt?
Ans: Malabar region was the original residential place of Mappilas. The British people took place this region in their control. They imposed several new taxes on them. The landlords started unmannered pressure on them. So Mappilas started rebel with Britishers. Britishers took several years to control over Mappilas.

Q. Who was Mangal Pandey?
Ans: Mangal Pandey was a sepoy who openly disobeyed orders. He killed two English officers at Barrackpore near Calcutta on 29 March 1857. He was arrested , tried and executed. The regiments of Barrackpore are disbanded. The news of Mangal Pandey incident very soon reached other parts of the country and resulted in open revolt.

Ans: The leaders of Bahavi movement was Abdul Bahav of Arab country who was influenced by the teaching of saint Shah Waliullah of Delhi.
