Q. In which month NIOS conducts Public Examinations?

The Public Examinations are held twice in a year in the month of April-May and October-November on the scheduled dates by National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS).A student gets nine chances to appear in the public examinations over a period of five years to complete his/her courses.

  
Q. What are the mediums of studies available in NIOS?

The NIOS offers the Secondary course in English, Hindi, Urdu, Marathi, Odia, Telugu, Gujarati, Tamil, Malayalam and Punjabi mediums; and the Senior Secondary course in English, Hindi, Odia, Bengali, Gujarati and Urdu mediums.


Q. How many subjects are required to be taken for obtaining the pass certificate?

A student can take minimum five subjects (including one or maximum two languages) and maximum seven subjects in which he/she is required to pass in minimum five subjects for obtaining a pass certificate at the Secondary (class 10) and Senior Secondary (class 12) level.


Q. Who will provide the study material for NIOS Board?

NIOS Board provides the study materials itself at no extra cost. You will be eligible to get study materials (books) when you will take admission successfully.


Q. Is Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) important?

Yes, every student has to submit all subjects’ TMA (Subjects which was taken at the time of admission) before the Theory Exams on the scheduled dates issued by NIOS.


Q. What happens if a student does not submit TMAs (Tutor Marked Assignments)?

TMA (Tutor Marked Assignment) is very important to be passed in NIOS Board. If anyone does not submit his/her TMA, the column of TMA in your mark sheet will show ABSENT, which means your result will not be acceptable (indirectly student will be failed). So, students have to submit their assignments.


Q. Whether a learner can change his/her subjects during the validity period of his/her admission?

Yes, a learner has the option to change one or more subjects, provided the total number of subjects does not exceed seven. Subjects already passed cannot be changed.


Q. What is the validity period of admission?

Once you registered, the Admission is valid for 5 years from the date of admission.


Q. Can students passed from NIOS appear in Competitive Examinations?

Yes, as NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) is under the MHRD Ministry (Govt. of India), it is 100% valid for any Competitive Examinations. Passed students can take admission in all over India as well as State Engineering, Medical and other competitive exams like IIT-JEE, AIEEE etc.  Students can apply for any Government Universities or Private Universities for their Bachelor or Professional courses after clear the Exam of 10+2 from NIOS Board.  


Q. Is NIOS a valid board like CBSE or State Board?

Yes, NIOS is a valid board like CBSE and any State Board and the value of certificates issued by NIOS Board have also same recognition as certificates issued by CBSE or any other State Board.
